Things I would like to work on, perhaps even get done, in the not too distant future.
LANGUAGE LEARNING
The last language I studied seriously long-term was Russian, as a student way back around 2010 or so. In theory, the modest knowledge I have retained passively might be useful as a springboard to other Slavic languages, or to a refresher. Russian grammar was always interesting to me, especially the use of aspect in the verb system.
Arabic or other Semitic languages, once again I am drawn to the fascinating verb system, with its consonantal roots. Of course there are reasons to learn these languages beyond the purely academic ones, but the academic reasons are a strong motivation, and I need strong motivation to persist with a particular language over time.
CODING
So much I could go for here. I can always improve my knowledge of JavaScript frameworks like React and Vue, as well as JavaScript backends, to say nothing of .NET backends. Outside of web development, I am always interesting working with either of C, C++ or Java. Perhaps a project of some kind would be the right motivation.
OTHER THINGS?
I have always loved playing stimulating board and card games. Chess is a classic example, its Japanese cousin Shogi is just an absolutely fascinating game (worthy of its own post at some point), but I have actually spent the most time on bridge, as a member of the University of Oslo’s bridge club (which is open to a wider audience than just students). Playing a game for fun is one thing, but I think it’s fun to actually try to improve, and to the study the game with that in mind.
